Huron Village is a residential neighborhood in West Cambridge.  Cambridge real estate buyers looking for a neighborhood with attractive streetscapes and walk-to amenities will want to consider Huron Village.

There are shops and restaurants along Huron Ave and on Concord Avenue – including my real estate office – the Coldwell Banker office at 171 Huron Avenue.

Fresh Pond is close by with its golf course, playground, and two mile walk around the pond. It’s a popular spot to dog walk, exercise and bird watch.

Huron Village Shops and Restaurants include:

  • Armando’s Pizza
  • Bryn Mawr Bookstore – used books
  • Didrik’s – home furnishings
  • Easy Chairs – antiques
  • European Country Antiques – antique furniture
  • Formaggio Kitchen – gourmet food shop
  • Fresh Pond Market – supermarket
  • Full Moon – restaurant
  • J. Miles – women’s clothing
  • Marimekko – clothing, fabric, housewares
  • Mobilia Gallery – fine art and gifts
  • Raining Cats and Dogs – pet store
  • Reside – modernist furniture and accessories
  • Sarah’s Market and Cafe – food market and restaurant
  • Trattoria Pulcinella – restaurant
  • The Village Kitchen – restaurant

Larger supermarkets aren’t far – Star Market (aka Shaw’s) is on Mount Auburn Street near Fresh Pond and also in Porter Square.  Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are at the Fresh Pond rotary.

Cambridge parking is sometimes tight if you don’t have a resident permit. One tip – Huron Avenue is one of the very few Cambridge streets that doesn’t require a permit for parking on the stretch from the end of the shopping district up to Concord Avenue.  Carefully watch the signs to make sure you’re in a free-to-all space.

Huron Village Transportation

The electric trolley runs down Huron Ave and buses run down Concord Ave.  It’s possible to walk to any of three Red Line subway stations – Harvard Square or Porter Square are about a mile and the Alewife T stop is under 1.5 miles.

The 71, 72, 74, 75 and 78 serve Huron Village with routes from Arlmont Village, Belmont, Waverly Square and Watertown Square to Harvard Square.

Zipcars are available at the Citgo station at the corner of Concord and Huron Ave.

Commuting by car from Huron Village is convenient with quick (fairly quick – Cambridge traffic can be a bear) access to Memorial Drive, Storrow Drive, the Mass Pike and Route 2.

Huron Village Real Estate

Most condos in Huron Village are in converted two and three-family buildings.  There are some brick multi-unit buildings on Concord Avenue and a few six to 10 unit buildings. Newer townhouses can sometimes be found in Huron Village. Condos typically sell in the $350,000 to $1,000,000 range.

Huron Village single family houses are popular – and expensive.  Recent sales have been in the $600,000 to $2,000,000-plus range.
