Arsenal Park Condos History
The Watertown Arsenal opened in 1816. The original twelve buildings, set on forty acres next to the Charles River, were designed by architect Alexander Parris who later designed Quincy Market. Over the years, from the Civil War to the World Wars, the Arsenal continued to expand.
The Army ceased operations at the Arsenal in 1968. In the ensuing years, buildings were converted to office, commercial and residential space. The Arsenal complex now includes the Arsenal Mall, apartments, condominiums, the Arsenal Center for the Arts, restaurants, a health club, day care center, and office space for a variety of companies, and an expansive park.
In the mid 1980s the Arsenal Park Condos opened with 36 condos in a combination of renovated old buildings and newly constructed brick townhouses designed to blend in with the original Arsenal buildings.
