Welcome to Centers and Squares

As a Cambridge real estate agent, the city squares of Cambridge, Somerville and Medford and the town centers of Arlington, Watertown and Belmont, Massachusetts are my home turf. And as a lifelong New Englander who’s lived within twenty miles of Boston most of my life, I can introduce you to other nearby towns as we search for your new home. If you’re planning to sell your home in Cambridge, MA or nearby you’ll find plenty of info about the home selling process here too. Questions? Send me an email or call me at 617-504-1737.

Medford Election Results

Medford did have an election yesterday but you wouldn’t know it if you went to the city website.  No results have been posted.  November 2011 Medford election results were available on the Medford Transcript website however:

Mayor McGlynn won a 13th term.  Given that his opponent Anthony D’Antonio didn’t seem to be a proponent of the Green Line extension I’m relieved that McGlynn won.

Medford will have one new face on the City Council – Richard Caraviello was elected to the council. Councilor Mark Arena failed to win reelection, falling short by just 37 votes. Incumbents Breanna Lungo-Koehn, Robert Maiocco, Paul Camuso, Frederick Dello Russo, Michael Marks and Robert Penta were all reelected.

Turns out you can get a better sense of the Medford City Council on Youtube than you can on the city website.   Search “Medford City Council” on Youtube and you’ll pull up quite the collection of videos, some hilarious, with titles like “Medford City Council – What Year is This?”, “Joe Viglione tells Medford City Council Off” or “Medford City Council Calls for a Battle”.  Watch ’em and weep – or laugh.

By far the most popular Medford City Council video is this one of City Councilor Paul Camuso, titled “Perfect Boston Accent“.  It’s been viewed over 650,000 times. Now I have to say – Councilor Camuso’s accent doesn’t really leap out at me.  I hear worse (better?!) all the time.  See what you think.

Meanwhile you support a Mayor who doesn’t give a crap about free speech in Medford, and won’t support community access media!
In Winchester we have a great community access station Wincam where residents from all communities can come , produce shows, and have a great time expressing their views and opinions. Yet in Medford they talk of cutting the station completely, and/or at least restricting who can participate in community access. If you don’t agree with the Mayor and the cronies that run Medford akin to a local mafia, then you become targeted, and are banned from the station. Its bad enough now, that residents are afraid to speak out against the Mayor if they have different views than him especially in regards to TV3 and the way they run things. In Winchester, we know how to run a TV station. In Medford they don’t. At least someone like Joe Viglione has the guts to stand up to the Mayor and the City council, when everyone else is too afraid to do so. Its a shame Medford can’t experience what we experience in Winchester with a vibrant community access channel and a soapbox for the community. We accept non Winchester residents as well, so if you’re looking for someplace to produce content for your organization in Medford or if you have an idea for a show, I encourage you to check out http://www.wincam.org . It is a great station for the community and local area at large. We have great things going on here, and its a shame they can’t do that in Medford because of the current mayor. Also there should be term limits for mayors, and I am going to be working on that issue in the near future. I’m going to bring it up with Sen Pat Jehlen. Medford needs a change and a new candidate to come into the race who can oppose and beat the current Mayor who has been in office for a long long time. There needs to be TERM LIMITS in the future for mayors. Why can presidents only serve 2 terms yet Mayors can server as many as they want? It doesnt make sense. The city council in Medford needs to support community media, and stop tearing down everyone who tries to go up against the mayor. It is a free country last I checked.
